ILBF 2025 essay competition call to action: ‘Step up and be part of something bigger’

Yasmin Batliwala, Chief Executive of Advocates for International Development (A4ID), sets out in a short video why entering the ILBF’s essay competition and engaging with the question is not just good for your career but an opportunity to step out into and engage with the wider legal world. Yasmin is one of the competition’s final round judges and is looking forward to reading what you have to say about this year’s topic.

As Chief Executive of A4ID, Yasmin’s key focus is quality of services and the business development of the organisation. Yasmin has held a number of significant leadership positions within the Public and Third Sectors. Her portfolios have included HIV/AIDS, Drug and Alcohol dependency, and Criminal Justice. She has undertaken work for the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime. Yasmin has considerable Board level experience including having been on the Board of a large NHS Trust, Governor of the University of Hertfordshire and has also served as a Magistrate in the Youth and Adult Courts. Yasmin was a recipient of the City of London Woman of Achievement Awards in respect to her work in the Public Sector. In 2022 Yasmin received an MBE for her work in Human Rights, Rule of Law and International Development.
