Continuing our series of interviews with our trustees ahead of our 10th Anniversary celebrations, our next trustee is Jane Colston, partner at Brown Rudnick. Jane is a litigator, and Publications Officer of the Litigation Committee of the International Bar Association.

Can you tell me about how you assist the ILBF?

I have the pleasure of working with my fellow trustees assisting in the operation of the charity, fund raising and identifying worthy recipients for the donated legal texts.

Why is the ILBF important to you?

I was on a charity fund raising car rally in October and during the 1000 miles Bob Dylan’s Hurricane song came on the radio.

“Couldn’t help but make me feel ashamed…to live in a land where justice is a game”.

Access to Justice is a fundamental right.  The ILBF empowers litigants to make themselves heard and helps ensure justice systems are something people can have faith and confidence in.

All those involved in the ILBF are volunteers.  Despite other commitments they all make time available.  Why? Because they are all personally and passionately committed to the ILBF’s objectives. It is therefore a meaningful and dynamic team to be part of.

What does the next 10 years look like for the ILBF?

Our recent campaign has been successful in identifying new worthy global recipients. We want to get relevant legal texts to them promptly. We  also want to continue to promote the ILBF so that we can increase the network of global recipients.

How to get involved

If you’d like to get involved or help with the work of the ILBF, we need assistance in the following ways:

  • We need funding to help us carry out our work
  • Books: If you have good quality and relevant legal texts to donate we’d love to hear from you.
  • If you either are, or know of organisations who need texts, we need recipients, so please apply.
  • Feedback: If you have received books, share your stories with us.
