What is the ILBF and what does it do?
The ILBF provides good quality second hand legal textbooks, donated by the UK legal community, to not-for-profit organisations in need of legal research resources across the globe.
The way that the ILBF works is simple. We encourage donations of useful secondhand books from the UK legal community. Prospective recipient organisations submit a comprehensive application form, outlining their user demographic and the potential uses for law books, which is assessed by the ILBF Operating Committee. Volunteers from across the legal profession unpack and sort book donations, determining which are most suitable for particular recipients. The selected books are then packed into boxes and sent to the recipient organisation in question. Once the books are received, the recipient organisation provides feedback to the ILBF.
Since 2005 the ILBF has sent over 95,000 books to more than 285 not-for-profit organisations in 62 countries across Africa, Asia, South America, Caribbean, Europe and the Pacific.

The operation of the ILBF
The ILBF is run by its Chief Executive and a team of volunteers, comprising the ILBF Patrons, Trustees and Operating Committee, who are committed to advancing the rule of law and access to justice through the provision of legal research resources. Two volunteers play a key role as the Administrator and Shipping Coordinator, managing the receipt of applications, donations of books and the coordination of shipments.
